Father (1859-1941) of Roy and Walt Disney. Partly-printed DS, one page, 8 x 3.25, February 5, 1917. Promissory note, in part: "Ninety Days after which I promise to pay to the order of The O-Zell Company Three Hundred Dollars at Chicago, Ills." Signed at the conclusion by Elias Disney. In fine condition. Originally from the estate of Ruth Disney Beecher, Walt's sister and the youngest child of Elias and Flora Disney.
Walt's father Elias Disney began investing in the O-Zell Company in 1912, and eventually moved back to Chicago to work for them in 1917. Originally, the O-Zell Company was a jelly-canning factory that also bottled apple juice; Elias planned to convert it to producing and bottling soft drinks. Walt Disney worked at the O-Zell factory before joining the Red Cross Ambulance Corps in World War I. The autograph of the Disney family patriarch is far rarer than that of his son.
