Description

American politician (1801-1872) who served as Secretary of State from 1861 to 1869, and was one of the targets of the 1865 assassination plot that killed Lincoln. Uncommon 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Seward in profile taken by Mathew Brady in 1865, signed in ink, "William H. Seward." Reverse is marked: "M.B. Brady & Co., National Photographic Portrait Galleries, No. 352 Pennsylvania Av., Washington, D.C. & New York." In fine condition, with a bit of light foxing.
