Boldly signed Massachusetts militia commission by John Hancock

Manuscript DS, one page, 12.5 x 7.75, November 1, 1791. As governor of Massachusetts, Hancock appoints Asa Clap as "Quarter Master of the fifth Regiment in the second Brigade and first Division of the militia of this Commonwealth comprehending the County of Suffolk." Boldly signed on the left side in ink by Governor Hancock, and countersigned along the bottom by John Avery as secretary. The white paper seal affixed to the upper left remains intact. Archivally corner-mounted, matted, and framed to an overall size of 20.5 x 15.75. In fine condition. A handsomely displayed, boldly signed military commission from late in Hancock's second stint as governor of Massachusetts.
