Civil War-dated ALS as Secretary of State, one page, 5 x 8, November 24, 1862. Letter to Major General Samuel P. Heintzelman, in full: "Judge Graves and Mr. Brown are loyal and fine citizens of New York & known to me as much." In very good to fine condition, with a couple of light stains, and a paperclip impression to the top edge. Accompanied by an engraving of Seward bearing a preprinted signature.
