Attractive bronze participation medal issued to Buster Crabbe for the 1927 Pan-Pacific Swimming Meet, a two-day international swimming event held in Osaka, Japan, in which Crabbe won the 440-meter freestyle and came in second in the 300 meters medley. Bronze, 60 mm, 138 gm, sponsored by Hochi Shinbun Newspaper Co. and made by Shogo Sato, Nezu-Yaegaki-Cho, Hongo, Tokyo. Complete with its original wooden presentation case, gilt-stamped on the lid in Japanese. In fine condition. Provenance: Estate of Buster Crabbe. Crabbe would go on to win the bronze medal in the 1500 meter freestyle at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, and the gold medal in 400 meter freestyle at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, before moving on to a Hollywood career in which he played Tarzan, Flash Gordon, and Buck Rogers.
