ALS signed “O. W. Holmes,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 3.5, September 26, 1893. Letter to Miss Somerville, in full: "I find it next to impossible to answer my correspondents. I can, however, send my best wishes to you and your scholars, and thank you for the honor you propose doing me in giving attention to my writings and my life. My eighty-fourth anniversary has just past, leaving me reasonably well, but over-tired with innumerable applications made to me from all quarters. I will mention a few poems as my hasty selection. The Chambered Nautilus, My Aviary, The Iron Gate, Bill and Joe, The Last Leaf, The Silent Melody, The One Horse Shay, Dorothy Q." The reverse side consists of a printed response card, which he has dated and then signed along the bottom, "Oliver Wendell Holmes." In fine condition.
