"I am heart and soul in favor of 'Votes for Women'"

ALS signed “W. D. Howells,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 6.75, personal letterhead, January 23, 1910. Letter to Mrs. John Winters Brannan of New York, in part: "It is with great regret I forgo the great honor you offer me. I never preside at any public meeting, and am wholly unfitted, by nature and act, for any such office. But I am heart and soul in favor of 'Votes for Women.'" In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Howells's hand.
