TLS, one page, 7 x 9, Office of the Attorney General letterhead, September 3, 1964. Letter to William M. Alexander, in part: "On the termination of my service as Attorney General, I want you to know how much I appreciate the many courtesies you extended to me during the past four years. I am particularly grateful for your efforts and those of the men working with you in the drive against organized crime. The painstaking investigative work of the Agents under your supervision and your significant contributions to the many field and Washington conferences of the Federal investigative agencies contributed materially to the success of this effort." In fine condition, with two file holes at the top. Written on his final day as Attorney General, this letter likewise dates to Kennedy's push for a seat in the US Senate as a New York representative; he ousted incumbent Kenneth Keating exactly one month later.
