Description

TLS signed “Ike E.,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, January 9, 1967. Letter to Mollie Cullum, in full: "Thank you for your note of welcome. I cannot tell you how long Mamie and I have been looking forward to reaching here and the morning we arrived was pure desert sunshine. Wonderful! I am sure that we will be getting together soon. I want to hear all about the final two tournaments in 1966 with Arnie back on the stick." Accompanied by the original mailing envelope with free frank stamp. 'Arnie' is in reference to Ike's golfing hero Arnold Palmer. According to Dave Shedloski of golf magazine Kingdom, less than a month after taking office in 1953, Eisenhower began practicing chip shots on the South Lawn and eventually commissioned a 3,000-square-foot putting green just outside the Oval Office. A brief yet desirable letter relating to Eisenhower's foremost sporting hobby and boasting his seldom-seen "Ike E." signature.
