Description

Journalist and newspaper publisher (1847-1911) who established the Pulitzer Prize 'for the encouragement of public service, public morals, American literature, and the advancement of education.' Office of the Post-Dispatch business check, 7.75 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed by Pulitzer, "Joseph Pulitzer," payable to Bulkley Dunton & Co. for $1474.06, January 28, 1882. Encapsulated in a plastic PSA/DNA authentication and grading holder, evaluating the autograph as "GEM MT 10." In fine condition. Bulkley Dunton & Co. was a New York-based paper supplier that likely provided the newsprint stock to Pulitzer's St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
