Description

Political activist and leader of the Black Panther Party (1935-1998). Unsigned handwritten manuscript by Eldridge Cleaver, one page both sides, 5.5 x 8.5, no date but circa 1975. In full: "Irangate: Nicaragua's Bay of Bigs. After it had become clear to the whole world that Fidel Castro had established a Communist dictatorship in Cuba, the defeat of the Cuban Exiles at the Bay of Pigs guaranteed communism military control of Cuba, which resulted in political control. The agreement worked out between Krushev and Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, guaranteed Cuba's continued existence as a communist dictatorship without any fear of serious opposition from the U.S.A." The reverse bears four lines of notes mentioning the "War Power Act" and "Bolen Amendment." Paperclipped to the edge is a short newspaper article with headline, "Former Panther Leader Renounces Marxist Ideology." In fine condition, with torn filing holes to the left edge. Accompanied by a "Cleaver for Congress" mailing envelope.
