Description

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, signed “M. Van Buren,” one page, 13.5 x 17.5, February 20, 1864. President Van Buren appoints John M. King as "First Lieutenant in the First Regiment of Infantry in the service of the United States." Crisply signed at the conclusion by President Van Buren and countersigned by Secretary of War Joel R. Poinsett. The crisply embossed white paper seal affixed to the upper left remains fully intact. In very good to fine condition, with scattered light staining and minor paper loss along one of the intersecting folds.
