In part: "I am going to ask a favor of you, not for myself, but for my friend Vitalis Scherb, a Swiss by birth, but for many years an American by residence. He proposes to deliver in Philadelphia a short course of lectures on German Literature, beginning next week…hoping that you may be able to attend…I am sure you will not be sorry to hear his discourse on Klopstock, Goethe, and Schiller."
