Highly appealing AQS on an off-white 6.75 x 8.5 sheet, signed in black ink, "Henry W. Longfellow, Dec. 9, 1875." Longfellow pens the final stanza to his poem 'The Day Is Done,' in full: "The night shall be filled with music, / And the cares, that infest the day, / Shall fold their tents like the Arabs / And as silently steal away." Also vertically signed above an affixed portrait of the poet, "With Mr. Longfellow's compliments." Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 12.5 x 14.75. In very good to fine condition, with two mailing folds, light soiling, and the handwriting just a shade light.
