Description

"As Chief of Staff of the Army, I have consistently declined to discuss political matters either with the press or with the public"

TLS, one page, 7 x 9, War Department, Chief of Staff, Washington letterhead, December 7, 1946. Letter to Mr. William H. Kittrell, in part: "Your friendly and cordial letter was very much appreciated. It dealt with a subject matter, however, that forces me to reply with only a simple acknowledgment. For sound and evident reasons, as Chief of Staff of the Army, I have consistently declined to discuss political matters either with the press or with the public so I know you will recognize my inability to do so in this instance." In very good condition, with overall creasing.
