Seeking $10K "for the support of the small pox and fever hospitals on Staten Island"

LS, one page, lightly lined, 7.75 x 9.75, November 9, 1848. Written from the Comptroller's Office in Albany, a letter to New York politician and journalist Gulian C. Verplanck, in full: "I have this day forwarded to the Hon. A. L. Jordon, Atty. Gen., for his signature, an order granting ten thousand dollars of the commutation money to be used for the support of the small pox and fever hospitals on Staten Island. I have also requested Mr. Jordan to hand the papers to you." In fine condition, with some light creasing.
