Frederick Treves

British surgeon (1853–1923) who saved Edward VII's life with an emergency appendectomy shortly before the coronation and who served as the personal physician to 'Elephant Man' John Merrick. ALS, one page, 4.25 x 7, personal letterhead, July 21, 1904. Letter to Mr. Goldschmidt, in part: "I have posted to you today your Guide Book of Japan. I am extremely obliged to you for so kindly sending it…It was quite invaluable. We hoped you arrived home safely and are pleased with all your many purchases. We have been in London a week or so and were very glad to be back again…Lady Trewes and my daughter join me in kind regards." In fine condition.
