Vintage color 8.5 x 9.5 handbill for one of Bill Quarry’s “Teens ’N Twenties” concerts featuring Neil Diamond and The Spyders at the Rollarena in San Leandro, California, on May 20, 1966, listing The Harbinger Complex, Mark and The Uptowners, and The Epics as supporting acts. The handbill advertises that Diamond is “Direct from New York!!!” and will be “Singing his hit ‘Solitary Man.’” In fine condition. Bill Quarry was one of the most respected promoters in the East Bay area during the 1960s and 70s, best known for hosting his ‘Teens ’N Twenties’ dances throughout Northern California. His first show at the Rollarena was on December 31, 1965, and it soon became the premier venue in the East Bay. Thanks to his success, Quarry was able to book a number of the best up-and-coming acts—especially notable was Neil Diamond, and this handbill represents his first-ever show in California.
