Presentation to a Nobel Peace Prize winner

Signed book: Speeches and Addresses of William McKinley. First edition. NY: Doubleday & McClure, 1900. Hardcover, 6 x 8.5, 388 pages. Signed and inscribed on the first free end page in black ink as president, “For Hon. Elihu Root, with sincere regards, William McKinley.” In fine condition, with the marbled front endpaper cracked and separated. Root, one of the greatest American statesmen of the early 20th century, served as secretary of war under both McKinley and Roosevelt and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1912 for his ‘strong interest in international arbitration and for his plan for a world court.’ Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
