Description

John Ericsson

Swedish-American Army engineer (1803-1889) who designed and built the ironclad warship Monitor for the American Navy. ALS signed "J. Ericsson," one page, lightly-gridded, 5 x 8, September 10, 1859. In part: "I enclose the Scientific dimensions of this week, by which you will find that I am right in now making a push to bring out the street car. The steam agitation in Philadelphia may account for the silence of your friend there-We have nothing to fear from steam as a competitor, yet it will be wise to show, without delay, that the thing can be done without...equal." In fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned image of Ericsson.
