Revolutionary War–era manuscript DS, signed “Joseph Vose L. Col.,” one page, 9 x 6, no date. Document headed “Abstract for the Pay of the Officers of Four Companies…Battalion Commanded by Brigadier Gen’l Jos. Patterson…months from the first of Jan’y.” The document accounts for a total pay of £273.12.0 between four captains, eight lieutenants, and four ensigns. Signed at the conclusion by Joseph Vose as lieutenant colonel. Also endorsed on the reverse by his son Elijah Vose as a major, indicating that this document predates Valley Forge. In very good condition, with areas of paper loss, some of which affect the text but not the signatures. Both Joseph Vose and his son were at Valley Forge under Washington’s command and participated in the fighting at Monmouth, Trenton, and Princeton.
