Revolutionary War general (1753–1807) who commanded a company of light infantry and took part in the Battle of Bunker Hill before serving under Israel Putnam and George Washington. Revolutionary War–dated manuscript DS, signed “Sam’l B. Webb Colo., 3d Connect. Regt.,” one page, 8.25 x 3.75, June 8, 1783. Brief document issued at West Point, in full: “This may Certify that John F. Tone served in Colo Samuel B. Webb’s Regiment in the Conn’t Line in the Continental Army in the year 1781.” In fine condition. Tone was a Hessian trooper who deserted the British Army and joined the American forces in revolt.
