Description

William Ramsay

Scottish chemist (1852–1916) who discovered the noble gases and won the 1904 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. ALS signed “W. Ramsay,” two pages both sides, 4.5 x 7, Arundel Gardens letterhead, August 3, 1897. Letter to Dr. Gladstone, in part: “I have your paper all safe, & shall read it, or get it read by the Secretary at Section B. It won’t be the same thing as usual not to have you there. We have a considerable number of papers. Dr. Russell has just sent me one, on the curious actinic (?) behaviour of paper, etc. I hope you will have a pleasant holiday, all the same. As you know we sail on Thursday in the Parisian, & I see by a hasty glance over the list of passengers that I know at least 50 people personally.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
