Description

The year of Some Like It Hot

Business check, 8.25 x 3, filled out in type and signed by Monroe as president of Marilyn Monroe Productions, Inc., payable to Pandick Press, Inc. for $93.94, July 3, 1958. In fine condition, with staple holes to upper left corner, expected cancellation holes and bank stamps (touching the first letter of the signature), and a typed line below signature. Accompanied by an unsigned color glossy photo. In 1955, Monroe and Milton Greene formed an independent film production company, Marilyn Monroe Productions. The smashing success of The Seven Year Itch earned Marilyn and her company a new measure of clout and respectability, ultimately leading to such films as Bus Stop and The Prince and the Showgirl. Personal and professional ties between Monroe and Greene began to deteriorate in the summer of 1956 when Marilyn’s new husband, Arthur Miller, accused Greene of undermining Marilyn in order to further his own financial interests. In the spring of 1957, after refusing a $500,000 buyout offer for his minority interest, Greene sold his stock for $100,000 and officially severed his ties with Monroe and her company. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
