Description

George Cukor

TLS signed “George,” one onionskin page, 8.5 x 11, April 29, 1954. Letter to Frank Sinatra, in full: “I’m about to take off on a vacation that will carry me to many strange, faraway places—the Greek Islands, Istanbul, etc.—so I’ve had to be vaccinated and injected against many kinds of strange and faraway diseases. I’ve been walking around with a mild case of para-typhoid, small-pox, and a teeny-weeny touch of cholera. In my weakened condition, your wonderful letter all but finished me off. I was very, very pleased—and touched—by what you had to say about the picture, and about me. I’m very grateful, too, for your having gone to the trouble of writing me about it.” Cukor adds a brief postscript, “I’m glad I voted for you for the Academy Award!” In fine condition, with a trivial paperclip impression to top edge. Sinatra won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as Private Angelo Maggio in the 1953 film From Here to Eternity. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
