Oliver Hazard Perry

American military officer (1785–1819) who served in the War of 1812 and earned the title ‘Hero of Lake Erie’ for leading American forces in a decisive naval victory at the Battle of Lake Erie. Manuscript DS, signed “O. H. Perry,” one page, 6.5 x 2.25, February 6, 1819. Financial document issued at Newport confirming receipt of “Three hundred Dollars on account of my pay & subsistence.” Handsomely double-matted and framed with an engraved portrait to an overall size of 12.25 x 16.5. Expected document wear and some dampstaining affecting ink in a few words on the left side, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
