TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, January 29, 1959. Letter to former Secretary of the Treasury John W. Snyder, in part: “You do not know how very much I appreciated your letter of the 25th with the quotation from George Messersmith, who was Ambassador to Mexico at the time I paid my official visit to that country. I am glad that Mike Di Salle is working out as we had hoped. I think he will do a good job as Governor of Ohio. In fact, I know he will because of the job he did for me when I was President, the hardest job any man could have had at the time.” In fine condition, with a crease to lower left corner. Although Messersmith did serve as the US Ambassador to Mexico, he was no longer in that position when President Truman made his official visit on March 3, 1947; he had been transferred to Argentina ten months prior.
