Union officer (1838–1894) on the staff of Major General McClellan, and a claimant to the French throne from 1848 until his death. Collection of four ALSs in French, one signed with just his initials, dated between 1801 and 1848. Three are accompanied by translations; one letter, in part: “We, my wife and I, want you to send three hundred francs to Dumas, who will give it in our name to the maid of poor Vatout…They looked for a testament in his room yesterday and didn’t find one; so this woman remains completely unprovided for!” In overall fine condition.
