Choice signed and initialed 1872 check

Business check, 7.75 x 2.75, filled out and signed by Arthur, “C. A. Arthur,” payable to Drs. Peters & Wheelock for $290, December 11, 1872. A two-cent revenue stamp is affixed to the upper left, initialed and dated by Arthur, “C. A. A., Dec 11 1872.” In fine condition, with expected bank stamps, notations, and cancellation cuts to the payee area (none affecting the crisp, clean signature). At the time, Arthur was about to see his one-year anniversary as collector of the Port of New York, having been appointed to the position by President Grant on November 20, 1871, and confirmed by the Senate on December 12 of that year.
