Arctic explorer (1832–1881) who commanded Satterlee Hospital in Philadelphia during the Civil War. Civil War–dated printed pass, signed “I. I. Hayes,” one page on a 5 x 3.25 card, July 14, 1864. Pass reads, “Pass the Bearer and Friends through all Posts.” Reverse bears an engraved vignette image of the Army hospital in Philadelphia. In very good condition, with a central vertical fold passing through the first letter of the signature, and an area of staining to the right side.
