Gideon Welles

Secretary of the Navy under Lincoln and Johnson (1802–1878). Partly-printed DS, one page, 8 x 10, October 14, 1863. Welles orders Acting Ensign Henry L. Ransom to “report to Commo. Montgomery…for passage on the U. S. S. Circassian to New Orleans, La., and you on arrival there report to Commo. H. H. Bell for duty in the West Gulf Blockading Squadron.” Signed at the conclusion by Welles, with several other endorsements on both sides of the order. Intersecting folds, scattered wrinkling and creasing, and areas of toning, otherwise very good condition. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
