ALS, one page, both sides, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, February 28, 1997. Letter to an admirer. In part: “After I received my MOH they would not give me the group I had requested. Flying was too dangerous. They had Col. Kier (my boss on this activity) form and train 4 teams in the use of radar…We did and embarked on 3 different ships…Team 1 landed with Kier & Me on ‘D’ Day at Iwo Jima…We joined the Team on ‘D’ day Lingayen Gulf…After another 3 weeks and into Okinawa on ‘D’ day. These were all such safe jobs they let us get back to flying for Korea. Of course I got shot down there leading me to believe that war is not ‘safe.’”; and a satin-finish 10 x 8 photo of the Iwo Jima landing, signed in black felt tip by Galer and Charles W. Lindberg. In fine condition. RR Auction COA.
