Very scarce portrait of General Porter—the first we’ve ever offered

Union major general who fought at Antietam and Second Bull Run. Porter was court-martialed in 1863 for disobeying an order from Gen. Pope to attack but was exonerated in 1878. Scarce original 2.25 x 4 carte-de-visite photo of Porter in uniform by Addis of Washington, D. C.,signed in black ink under the image, “F. J. Porter, Maj. Genl.” In fine condition, with a couple trivial dings to background. The first signed image of Porter we have offered. RR Auction COA.
