Description

Hiram Powers

American neoclassical sculptor (1805–1873). ALS, one onionskin page both sides, 8.5 x 5, Florence, December 14, 1868. Letter to a gentleman. In full: “The bust of our friend Dr. Bellows is complete in marble and I have directed my plaster molder to take an impression of it for you according to agreement. The marble is a very fine specimen, and I have spared no pains in the execution. My son will write you in relation to what you say about photographs…P. S. My son has all ready except the bust photos—and will now attend to them, from the marble—he could not do them until the bust was finished & taken up to his studio.” Intersecting folds, light toning to top, and moderate show-through from writing on opposing sides, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by two original signed cartes-de-visite, one portrait and one of a sculpture. RR Auction COA.
