He is generally credited as the composer of the bugle call ‘Taps.’ Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite bust portrait of Butterfield in uniform, by an anonymous studio, signed at the bottom in black ink, “Danl Butterfield, U.S.A.” In fine condition, with light scattered toning and speckling to the image.
