Original early 1900s cabinet card photograph, 4.25 x 6.75, of Russian author Maxim Gorky and his wife by Herman Mishkin, official portraitist of New York’s Metropolitan Opera. The studio image was shot in the United States while Gorky was on tour. The image quality is exceptional, with great detail and deep tones. The front of the cabinet has the Mishkin Studio imprint and 1906 copyright. The upper left corner is heavily creased with reinforcement tape on back. The back also has a handwritten ink caption for the image. Despite the wear, an exceptional original portrait of the couple.
