Exceptionally early vintage matte-finish 7.75 x 9.5 photo of Bogart slinging back co-star Dorothy MacKaill for a kiss in 1932’s Love Affair, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “Darling Claire, distance lends enchantment—thought this might hand you a laugh—and best to Cliff and Polly, Love, Humphrey.” In fine condition, with creases to the corners and right side, a paperclip impression over the beginning of the inscription, and tack holes to the lower left corner. Obviously, based upon the long, personal inscription and informal nature of signing his first name only, the original recipient of this photo was an important part of Bogart’s inner circle—perhaps an old acting partner or girlfriend. One of the youngest, finest, and most unique Bogart signed photos we have had the pleasure of offering. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
