Description

Ward Bond

TLS, two pages, 8.5 x 11, MPA letterhead, December 7, 1953. Letter to MGM executive Eddie Mannix, asking for a donation to an anti-communist organization. In part: “As you know, the Motion Picture Alliance has carried on the fight against the communist movement in the motion picture industry for a long period of years. Because of the nature of the problem it was practically impossible for any anti-communist organization to operate in the past without terrific opposition. However, today, with the present general acceptance of the program of the MPA, we find that more and more demands are being made upon us which we are not equipped to fulfill. A small group of people have been carrying the financial burden of the MPA, and we have been able to accomplish what we have had to accomplish without much money. We have not been able to maintain a full time girl in our office, which is badly needed. We feel that this is hurting the program which is so necessary to our industry and to the community and to the nation. For this reason we are directing a communication to a substantial number of studio executives asking them to give us a small contribution, so that we can more effectively carry on this work without the terrible burden on the resources of out small group, both in time and money.” Signed at the conclusion by Ward Bond and Roy M. Brewer. Scattered light creases, a diagonal crease to the lower left of the second page, mild shade of toning, a couple paperclip impressions, and a small pencil notation to the top right, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
