British film composer (1904–1977) best known for his Warsaw Concerto, written for the 1941 film Dangerous Moonlight. ALS signed “Dick,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 6.5, Glen Cove, Long Island letterhead, September 24. Letter to theatrical agent Arnold Weissberger. In full: “Thank you so much for asking me to your party last night. I did enjoy myself—and hated having to leave so early but I knew you would understand. As soon as I know how rehearsals go and what my schedule is, I will call you, but as we have less than two weeks to put the whole show together, to say nothing of the new numbers, I imagine that there may be little or no time at all!” In fine condition, with an erased pencil notation to the upper left of the first page.
