Description

“Considered seriously the FUN is a bit desperate but—due to the few free hours, I suppose—there is vitality and intensity”

Two items: ALS, two pages on thin paper, 5.5 x 8.75, February 8, 1949. Cadmus writes to George Bacon, in part: “I liked your little note about my exhibition at the Midtown Galleries, & Sailors and Floosies. I’m pleased you thought the latter ‘true.’ It is only one aspect of course, but it is an aspect I always enjoy looking at. Considered seriously the FUN is a bit desperate but—due to the few free hours, I suppose—there is vitality and intensity. Would you like a photograph of it? Or any other particular painting? I would be glad to send them to you”; and a color glossy 4.75 x 6.5 greeting card featuring Cadmus’ 1946 painting ‘Fantasia on a Theme by Dr. S,’ signed on the front in the bottom border in blue felt tip, circa early 1980s, “Paul Cadmus.” In fine condition, with the letter showing four small areas of separation, one at the end of each of the two horizontal mailing folds, uniform toning, and a faint pencil notation to the top right corner.
