With war looming, Madison and Monroe approve an Ohio land grant

Partly-printed DS, signed “James Madison” as president and “Jas. Monroe” as secretary of state, one page, 14.75 x 7.5, January 1, 1812. Land grant issued to David Huston of Greene County stating “he has made full payment for the North East Quarter of Section number Twenty-six…of the land lying between the Great Miami river and the Virginia reservation…directed by the act of Congress, entitled 'An act providing for the sale of the Lands of the United States in the Territory north-west of the Ohio, and above the mouth of the Kentucky River'.” Double matted and framed with a descriptive plaque, to an overall size of 21.5 x 15. Central horizontal and vertical fold, scattered light toning, and portions of handwritten text a couple shades light, otherwise fine condition.
