“I have not a scrap of writing in the hand of the late Com. Rogers”

Mexican War and Union commander (1786–1866) nicknamed ‘Old Fuss and Feathers’ for his love of military pageantry. ALS, one page, 5 x 8, October 17, 1846. Scott responds to W. L. Morris. In full: “I have not a scrap of writing in the hand of the late Com. Rogers. His son, a Lieutenant of the Navy, is about, so I might obtain an autograph from him.” Light wrinkling, a few spots of soiling and toning, and an old two-line catalog description affixed at the bottom of the page, otherwise fine condition.
