Charles A. Lockwood

US Navy officer (1890–1967) known in submarine history as the legendary commander of Submarine Force Pacific Fleet during World War II. He devised tactics for the effective use of submarines, making the members and elements of ‘silent service’ key players in the Pacific victory. Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of Lockwood in his dress whites, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Kenny Lazier, Wishing him luck in his historical collection. Charles A. Lockwood, V. Adm. com sub pac.” Lockwood has added a lengthy postscript on the reverse detailing his various ribbons, signed at the conclusion “C.A.L.” Mild creasing across the image touching his face, scratches, a small tear at the left side, and scattered soiling, otherwise very good condition.
