Description

Very rare autograph response from Carlos the Jackal

Terrorist born Illich Ramirez Sanchez who achieved notoriety for a 1975 raid on OPEC headquarters in Vienna in which three people were killed. The attack turned him into a wanted international fugitive. ALS in French, signed “Carlos” on the inside of a 5.75 x 4 card, the front of which shows him smiling and raising a clenched fist from behind the grill of a police vehicle, dated April 5, 2001. The one-time international fugitive answers an autograph seeker’s request. The untranslated text thanks his correspondent for a letter and explains that he does not usually sign autographs but he found the request so genuine that he made an exception. In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope from La Sante Prison in Paris and a signature, cut from a longer letter, from Day of the Jackal author Frederick Forsyth. Also accompanied by an unsigned photo of Carlos the Jackal. An exceptionally rare signature of an infamous 20th century terrorist and, until his 1994 arrest, the world’s most wanted man. The first such item we have sold. RRAuction COA.
