Description

Pope Pius IV

Born Giovanni Angelo Medici (1499-1565), was Pope from 1559 to 1565. He is notable for presiding over the culmination of the Council of Trent. Manuscript DS, in Italian, signed “Car le de Medici,” one page, 8.25 x 11, November 23, 1555. Document regarding an appointment to the Church of Cassano and previous approval of the Duke of Florence and the King of England. Cloth matted and framed with a descriptive caption, to an overall size of 15.75 x 24.5. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, scattered light toning and soiling, and missing top right corner. Oversized. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
