He entered the annals of popular quotation with his famous inquiry, “Dr. Livingstone, I presume?,” upon finding David Livingstone, a Scottish missionary and fellow explorer who had become lost in the wilds of Zanzibar. Original ink portrait of Stanley, signed by the artist “R. Kastor,” measuring 4.75″ in diameter, on an off-white 9.75 x 12.5 heavy stock sheet, signed in black ink beneath the image, “‘Whatever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might,’ Henry M. Stanley, London, Oct. 21, 1896.” Mild soiling and toning, and light wear and creasing at edges (easily matted out), otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
