Letter from the inventor referred to as the ‘second Gutenberg’

German inventor, who has been called a second Gutenberg because of his invention of a machine that could easily and quickly set movable type. Rare ALS signed “Ott. Mergenthaler,” one page, 8.5 x 11, Ott. Mergenthaler & Co. Mechanical Engineers and Machinists letterhead, April 18, 1894. Letter to Mr. Hutchins regarding a stock purchase. In part: “Have been lying at #50.00 and will take at that figure as much as I can carry but do not believe that the present statues of the Co. would justify me to go as high as #60.00.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and some light toning.
