TLS signed “Margaret Mitchell Marsh,” one page, 7 x 11, personal letterhead, February 7, 1938. Mitchell writes to Esther J. McDermott in Waukegan, Illinois. In full: “I wish sincerely that I could help you out of your predicament and give you a copy of the letter which I wrote to Mrs. Joel Chandler a year or so ago, but I cannot do this as I have no copy of it and, of course, cannot recall word for word what I wrote her. I remember that she wrote me lovely letters and I replied with pleasure and appreciation. Even if I had copies, I do not think we could ‘put it over on her’ as I have changed typewriters since writing to her. I am so very sorry I cannot help you in this matter.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. A touch of mild handling wear, otherwise fine, bright condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
