Mondrian discusses his financial woes

Dutch painter (1912–1944), closely associated with the De Stijl movement, best known for his primary-colored geometric “Compositions.” ALS in Dutch, one page both sides, 5.25 x 8.5, October 12, 1931. Letter his friend, architect Alfred Roth, to whom he reports about his financial troubles. In part: “I think I can have it published without charge, because until this moment I am very short of money with this crisis, no one is buying from me!! Anyway I ordered a large painting to be done, but it is not ready in a month.” Show-through from text on reverse, rusty paperclip mark to top edge, intersecting folds, and small chip to bottom edge, otherwise fine condition.
