Partly-printed DS as president, one page, 12.5 x 8.25, January 1, 1817. President Madison appoints John M. Brooke to the position of Midshipman in the Navy. Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Madison, and countersigned by Secretary of the Navy Benjamin W. Crowninshield. In fine, bright condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and a bit of scattered light creasing and toning. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
